About Mark Aizlewood

Mark’s practice focuses on defending professional liability claims on behalf of insurers and their insureds. He works for a range of professionals including lawyers, accountants, engineers, valuers, surveyors, insurance brokers and other financial professionals.

Mark’s solicitors’ practice has encompassed working for the Insurers to the Master Policy, the Solicitors Indemnity Fund Limited, and open market insurers, where he was involved in leading cases regarding PPI mis-selling and mortgage fraud.

Mark defends claims across a range of professions for both Lloyd’s and London Market insurers.  He advises insurers and policyholders on coverage issues on professional indemnity, financial institutions and D&O policies.

Mark has experience of defending professionals in regulatory and disciplinary proceedings brought by regulators and governing bodies.  Mark is also experienced in appellate work and representing clients at mediation and other forms of ADR.

For non-contentious matters, Mark works with insurers and insurance brokers in drafting policy wordings to fit the needs of professional firms and financial institutions.

Examples of cases Mark has handled include:

  • A claim against a law firm in connection with claims arising out of £500m fraud perpetrated in the Middle East
  • Acting for Insurers on the interpretation of the Successor Practice provisions of the Solicitors’ Minimum Terms and Conditions following the sale of a solicitors’ practice
  • Acting on a multi-million claim against auditors and accountants whose conduct is alleged to have permitted a number of substantial thefts
  • Acting for Insurers on coverage issues arising from claims involving cladding exclusions following the Grenfell Tower fire
  • Defending claims against accountants arising from an HMRC investigation following allegedly wrongful treatment of provisions
  • Defending claims made against engineers arising from the failure of digestate lagoon facility on a bio-gas power plant
  • A multi-party claim against construction engineers arising out of the design and installation of multi-media signs at a leading retail park
  • Acting for a national network of IFAs and its insurers in dealing with a broad range of complaints and claims made to the Ombudsman
